Reiki certification – how do I get certified?

It was said to me once by a reiki master, that you don’t find reik – rather reiki finds you.  It was interesting and the more I thought about it the more I realised how true those words were.

I did not wake up one day and say ok i am now looking for reiki certification. In fact for a long time I did not know what reiki was! But I started seeing posters in supermarkets and shop windows offering level 1 reiki certification.  I ignored it and then one day I took a look at it.

Is there really reiki certification?

Unfortunately there are some people who don’t believe in reiki, so when you say you are going to spend a weekend getting reiki training and certification they look at you. As such there is no college of reiki! Instead your reiki award comes from the reiki master that trains you.  They give you the certification after your reiki training.

Is there a reiki certification body?

As such no.  It is based on a time honoured desire to hand down the skills and knowledge needed to heal people and train others how to heal people. This of course has lead to many an argument that without proper reiki certification anyone charlatan can begin practicing it. Although this could be true I have found that those who practice and train in reiki are usually of a very strong nature and would not “con” people.  I have always found practitioners of reiki to be very honest individuals.

What should I look out for?

Getting reiki certification is a big step. Since we are talking about energy healing a lot of of people rightly worry about getting the wrong energy, the wrong reiki master and just getting it wrong in general. As my reiki master said to me, you must find a reiki master that you feel comfortable with.

So here’s my tips for find the right reiki certification for you:

Go for a reiki session with the reiki master – see if you get on with them

Check to see if the reiki master has their qualifications displayed

Talk to the reiki master about the reiki certification process

See if the reiki master is fully insured

Ask if they are a member of any local, national or international reiki federation.

If you consider these points and do a bit of researcher you will find a reiki certification and reiki master that is suited to you.
