Reiki classes – Can I become a Reiki practitioner?

This is an interesting question as many Reiki Masters will say that everyone is born with the power to channel reiki and use it.  This power is shut off when they grow older and become more rational in their thinking. However people wonder are their Reiki classes they can go to? The answer of course is yes!

When you go Reiki classes/Reiki training, the switch is pushed up and the channel is opened again to allow you to channel the energy. So in essence we are all reiki healers but we have forgotten the art.  When you complete your reiki training you will become a Reiki practitioner.

I personally always remember feeling heat between my hands when I was younger and never thought much about it until I started seeing advertisements for Reiki – it seemed it was calling me.

Reiki classes – how does it work?

Rather than call them Reiki classes, most people call it Reiki training.   It is useful to understand that there are different levels of Reiki:

Level 1 Reiki – This level of Reiki introduces you to the energy flow of Reiki and “opens you up” as a chaneller of the energy. This level is really just an introduction to Reiki energy and allows you to do self healing

Level 2 Reiki - In this level you get more Reiki energy – you will feel more energy flowing through you and you will be introduced to some of the Reiki symbols which are said to increase and concentrate the flow of Reiki energy. When you complete your Level 2 Reiki you can now practice as a Reiki practitioner.

Level 3 Reiki - This level of Reiki is often called the Reiki Master level. When you go to the Reiki classes to become a Reiki Master you are introduced to the remaining Reiki symbols. These will increase your energy levels further.  At this point you are also shown how you can guide and present Reiki classes yourself and share the energy with others.

What do I need to do to attend a Reiki class?

To be honest all you need is to have an open mind. However you must attend each level 1 by 1. so you start with a level 1 Reiki class. It is often said that you should wait a number of months in-between classes before going to the next level.  As such if you want to become a Reiki Master, it might take 8 – 12 months.  The other thing you must do is practice between your Reiki class.  There’s no point in attending the training and then never actually practicing your Reiki!

Reiki is all about doing and feeling – just let it flow!

Do I need to be super clever to become a Reiki Practitioner?

To be honest Reiki is about being. In order to be able to understand what is going on in a Reiki training you do need to have highschool level intelligence. I hate saying that as really you need an open mind, but you need to have a little bit of intelligence to “get” what is being taught. But don’t worry there’s no essays, reports etc that have to be completed. You just need to show your skills by practicing on others during the Reiki classes.

What happens during the Reiki classes?

Usually the class is set up with relaxing music, candles may be burning as well as incense.  The Reiki Master will introduce himself/herself and then being the training.  The class will being with a history of Reiki and what it is and is not – so many people have misconceptions about Reiki!  At around the middle point of the first day, (Reiki training is usually two days long), you will be initiated into Reiki. This is often called a Reiki attunement – this is where you are opened up to channeling the energy.  This a relaxing event. After the attunement you will normally be show how to give a treatment of Reiki. You will be shown the hand positions.  During the second day of your Reiki training, you will be shown how to give a full treatment.
